To educate and enlighten visitors who come seeking information about Mary Magdalene by presenting research that crosses the boundaries of perspective and faith.
History:
Magdalene.org was begun by Lesa Bellevie in July, 1998. At the time very little information about Mary Magdalene was available online, so the site was started as an effort to collect and organize what Bellevie was able to learn about her. As interest in Mary Magdalene grew in the years leading up to the publication of The Da Vinci Code and exploded thereafter, the site became the most popular stop on the web for readers interested in finding out what was behind all of the hype.
In 2005 the site was relaunched with a new vision: to educate visitors about the various perspectives that exist about Mary Magdalene. At a time of conflicting theories and burgeoning spiritual movements, many people have a hard time sorting out the various threads of history, myth and religion. Magdalene.org is uniquely positioned to provide answers to many of the questions people have, so we're attempting to use the platform to encourage the open examination of ideas.
Religious affiliations:
Magdalene.org is a secular site; we do not endorse any particular religion or set of spiritual beliefs. Although we discuss Christianity extensively, this is because of the nature of our subject: Mary Magdalene was a Christian figure. We endeavor to treat all matters of spirituality with respect and accuracy, and matters of history with rigorous and critical research. Articles posted on this site contain the opinions of their respective authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of Magdalene.org.
Privacy policy:
If at any point you share your personal information with Magdalene.org (your name, email or snail mail address, telephone number, etc.), that information will be kept confidential. We do not sell information or subscriber lists.
