The Crucifixion

Perhaps the most frequently depicted scene in history, Mary Magdalene is often shown as one of the mourners near the foot of the cross. Common themes are: Magdalene clutching the base of the cross, a skull and/or crossbones near her, and a posture/expression of despair. She is usually wearing red or gold, while the Virgin usually wears blue or black. We've included details of Magdalene in most of the images in this gallery.
